Q: PLAI is for grassroots cricket!
Para Hills Cricket Club building their future.

Established in 1964, the Para Hills Cricket Club is a family friendly community situated in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. It is the largest club within the City of Salisbury and fields several junior teams, along with several men’s and women’s teams. They also have a team heavily involved in the Inclusive League. The club is affiliated with the North Eastern Junior Cricket Association and the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association.

In 2023 it was honoured with the SACA community club of the Year Award. They achieved this recognition through its commitment to making cricket accessible to everyone. They are known for inclusivity and embracing diversity within their club. They celebrate everyone that is part of the club. This is whether they are volunteers, or they are a part of the playing group. This is a major part of why Para Hills Cricket Club is a vibrant club which others look up to within their association.
question
Q: What kind of club uses PLAI?

Established in 1838, the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) is among Australia's most prestigious and historic sports organisations. In 1859, it was responsible for creating the original rules for Australian Rules Football, marking a significant contribution to the sport.

The cricket club competes in the Victorian Premier cricket competition in Melbourne and has a long history of success within it. It boasts elite junior boys and girl’s teams, as well as several men’s and women’s teams in various grades. At the same time, the club hosts and runs its own competitive high-level competition, which includes participation from other clubs involved in the Premier league.

The MCC has been at the forefront of hosting significant sporting milestones. This includes the first English cricket team's tour in 1862, the first-ever Test match in 1877, and the inaugural one-day international cricket match in 1971. Beyond these historic achievements, the MCC fosters a dynamic and inclusive community, embracing participants from 12 different sports including baseball, bowls, croquet, football, golf, hockey, lacrosse, netball, real tennis, target shooting, squash, and tennis. While the Club engages in a wide array of sports, its core focus continues to be on the effective management and forward-looking development of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, an iconic symbol of Australian sporting heritage.

question
Q: PLAI - Giving back to Cricket Clubs

For the next couple of months, I've been authorised to put AU $300 back into the club should you feel now is the right time to consider a partnership with PLAI.

As a quick revisit... PLAI is subscription free, enabling you to simplify your day to day running of the club by consolidating all key functions into one place. This includes the management of player availability, team selections, player communications, collecting of fees and so much more.

Growing up and playing country cricket in regional Victoria I understood the importance of building communities and having kids and parents be involved at the club level. As a community coach and volunteer in more recent years, I also recognise that clubs need to grow & generate new revenue to keep up with the rising costs.

Q: Our son played under 14 representative cricket last season and did trial for a club’s green shield team for this season. Unfortunately, he missed out but a number of his team mates made the squad.
A few parents of the kids have been persistent with wanting our son to play green shield with them and it’s upsetting him as the coaches of the club have said the squads have been selected.
What should we do to help him?
A: Its a tough one as I have had 2 sons and at different times one has missed out. It is tough as a parent. At the end of the day, they become more resilient if we give them the right messaging. Discuss how the season provide opportunities to prove them wrong for the next season. Focus on getting good results in junior games over the summer. Be better and stronger. Get them some extra coaching, Spend more time with them in the nest. Until your shoulder gets too sore. In the end one of my boys decided to even by pass the rep stuff as they got older to play good cricket in the seniors. He made this decision himself. Now, he is on the cusp of playing 1sts this coming season. The other one, also just ignored the noise and has already played in the 1sts in the VSCDA competition last year.

Q: The Evolution of Branding in Sports Clubs: Adjusting to Today's Demographics

In the world of sports, branding is far more than just a logo or a catchy slogan; it's an intricate tapestry that tells a story about a club, its values, its history, and its vision for the future. When we speak of branding within sports clubs, we refer to the overall image and identity a club projects to its supporters, sponsors, and the wider community. This image is crafted through various elements such as club colours, logos, mascots, and even the style of play. These components collectively form a brand identity that influences how the club is perceived within the community.

Branding in sports clubs is not a static concept; rather, it's dynamic and continuously evolving. It's about creating emotional connections with fans, fostering a sense of belonging, and building loyalty that spans generations. A strong brand identity can turn casual spectators into passionate supporters, creating a vibrant community around the club. The importance of a club's brand identity should never be underestimated. In many ways, it's the heartbeat of the club, influencing almost every aspect of its operations. From public relations and marketing to community engagement, a robust brand identity serves as a potent tool in driving a club's success.

From a public relations perspective, a well-defined brand identity helps shape the narrative around a club. It gives the club a distinct voice, enabling it to communicate effectively with various stakeholders such as fans, media, and sponsors. In essence, it helps set the tone for all the club's interactions and relationships. In terms of marketing, a compelling brand identity can significantly enhance the club's promotional efforts. It provides a clear framework for crafting engaging marketing campaigns that resonate with fans and attract potential sponsors. Furthermore, a strong brand identity can differentiate a club from its competitors, giving it a unique selling proposition.

When it comes to community engagement, a club's brand identity plays a central role in connecting with local communities. A club with a strong brand identity that aligns with community values can foster deep-rooted connections, encouraging community members to support the club in various ways. This in turn, creates a proposition for new players and members to join the club. This is is a small reason PLAI Sport exists. To help grassroots sports.
question
Q: For any sports club, maintaining financial stability is key to its success and longevity. This goes beyond just balancing the books. It involves strategic planning that ensures a steady flow of income, efficient allocation of resources, and secure financial reserves. Indeed, the financial health of a sports club is as essential. It is important as the fitness of its players.

Managing a sports club's finances can be quite an intricate task. From player registration fees and sponsorship contracts to equipment costs and facility maintenance, there are numerous financial aspects to consider. Traditional systems, while familiar, can be time-consuming, error-prone, and lack the flexibility required in today's fast-paced environment.

Digital tools definitely are making it easier for clubs to manage their finances. Clubs are realising that using these tools open up new avenues for revenue generation and cost savings. They offer streamlined processes, real-time data access, and provide a more engaging platform for communication. (with members, players, and sponsors).

Digital platforms can play a pivotal role in enhancing communications within a sports club. Regular and effective communication is crucial for maintaining strong relationships between the club, players, sponsors, and supporters. Platforms like email newsletters, social media, and messaging apps can keep all stakeholders informed and engaged. This digital engagement not only fosters a sense of community but also opens up opportunities for advertising and sponsorship, stimulating revenue streams for the club.

When implementing digital solutions, it's crucial to consider the unique needs and capabilities of different club members. For instance, the digital tools used for senior players might differ from those for junior players. The same goes for coaches, who may require separate features for scheduling, player assessment, and communication.

Implementing digital solutions is not a one-time task but an ongoing process. Regularly review is still needed as always.
Remember, good communication isn’t just about speaking; it’s about connecting. To achieve financial stability and growth, your sports club must master both. One thing is for sure, to survive, change needs to happen. Where to start? Know of a free platform? (shhhhh its a secret PLAI is free!)

Q: We have a young wicket keeper in our club who moves really well to his left but struggles moving to his right. Last season he missed a few catches with the balls going between himself and first slip off right hander batters. He didn’t have the same problem with left hand batters.
Can we ask what training drill we could help him with leading into this season?
A: As a wicketkeeper, the fitness and core is important. I am a runner training for triathlons currently and these exercises will help your young fellah. This could be a start for him to get the body loose and moving freely.

Q: We have a promising 17-year-old batter at our club and we’ve noticed he’s picking the bat up towards leg slip as the bowler is running into bowl. What’s the best way to help and is there a preference to how he should pick the bat up?
A: Hi. Quick video on the phone would help. Teenagers can't see it until they see it. The other thing is trying to find out how long he has been doing it. Has it impacted on him losing his wicket? How does he get out more often?

Q: Hi, all. I am just new in this forum. I hope to provide some input as I go. I hope it is all useful. I am just a grass roots cricketer, born in Indonesia and grew up in country Victoria. There was no reason for me to play the game due to my background. To cut a long story short, I have played and/or been involved with cricket for 40 years and have enjoyed every bit of it. All my kids played and 2 of them are still playing with a sub District Club in Melbourne. My passion is grass roots and I believe that sports offers many things for kids. I grew up in clubs and I remember the weekends where we talked all the day about nothing and everything. Some of the best memories have been on a Saturday in and around cricket clubs. Recent times, it has saved my mind during tough times also. Its a great place to be. I now coach at the Singapore Cricket Club and spend most of my time there. I also am working with sports clubs internationally to improve efficiencies in clubland! Thats the short version...till my next post...cee ya.
