My tribute to Bob Vidler, RIP Bobby
Gary Crowfoot | April 19, 2023
Robert (Bob Vidler) was a key influence on shaping my cricket playing career at Bankstown District Cricket Club to ultimately becoming a first-grade player and teammate.
Bobby provided not just me, but that of a very young group of talented players at the club a pathway to play first grade cricket for which I will be forever truly grateful!
As a young player you need to have important influences in your cricket journey and Bob as our 1st Grade Captain and Leader was certainly that. He had an outstanding quality to keep all players united towards our goals. He taught us that the game of cricket will provide us with individual challenges, however more importantly wanted us to understand the game was a team sport.
He taught me that whilst individual success is important, team importance is more valued by your Club and your team mates
He encouraged us to practice and develop our skills, back ourselves in the match contest and find a way to look to perform under pressure.
He cared about his players which he wanted to install into his team that we could be a team of mates.
Bob expected his players to be committed, dedicated and be passionate about the game of cricket. He showed us a way to “Love the game”
As a player Bobby was a gritty and tenacious batsman with great skills. Very useful leg spin bowler. A BRILLIANT fieldsman and ultra-competitive. As a captain Bobby was always positive with a capacity to look to continue to win cricket games from any position. However, irrespective of the result he wanted us to enjoy a beer after the game again as teammates and on most occasions with our opposition after the days play.
#RIP Bobby, your Rich legacy for the game of cricket and Bansktown will never be forgotten.
