Most memorable moment in cricket:
Personally, when our club won 1st and 2nd grade final in 86/87 Shires competiton. I hit winning runs.
What’s the best cricket advice you’ve ever received:
Cricket is like a pie divided into 3 parts. The team who sets it self up to win the last 1/3 will most likely win the game.

Q: My son is 15 and loves cricket. During the off-season last year, he worked really hard on his batting.
He was opening the batting and really enjoyed it and wanted to get a lot better. But after two games and he scored 33 and 41 the coach said he batted too slow and for the rest of the season he was batting down the order and didn’t get many chances.
No, he says what’s the point of training this off season. It’s sad as he really does love batting and the game. What advice could anyone offer?

A: I suppose not knowing the FULL story - such as how did the change in the order go for the rest of the season?
My advice is not to give up and definitely keep training. The positive out of this is firstly, this young man values his wicket and with that he will be well suited to playing grade cricket (2-day format) as a start.
2nd I agree with David above the best advice is to focus on working the ball and getting off strike. The big scores will come, and this young fella will be playing a good level of cricket for a long time.
Please enjoy it..

question
Q: Bob Black was awarded a Legend of Sydney Shires Cricket in 2009. Not only being a fantastic cricketer and baseballer himself, but Bob was also a leader and a great tactical captain across the top 2 grades in our club.
Playing under Bob in the 1980s and 90s he wasn’t big on announcing a batting line up prior to a game. He would rather chat at training or on the phone during the week, and it was clear what role you were to play. 1:1’s was important for an individual which assisted you buying into the team’s success.
Off the field, "Boston" (as we called him - a reference to Fenway Park) would let you know the real facts and sometimes you may get your nose out of joint for a short time but if you were smart, he was asking you to step up.

question
Q: Holroyd vs Roseville at Monty Bennett Oval and captain Curtis brings Andrew Gokel on to bowl. Gokel was a slow bowler with fingers down the seam. Movement was limited but did skid the ball on from time to time depending on the track.
I was keeping this particular day and the batter blocked his first 6 balls not knowing Andrew’s skill level. Next over same batter faces and blocks the 1st ball again. Gokel walks down the pitch to pick up the ball and with a big grin on this face says to the batter “you do know they smack me at training” – it was hilarious. Next ball OUT - bowled.
