Australian O40's Cricket Squad Announced for Inaugural World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa

Veterans Cricket Australia | December 12, 2023

Queensland Captain Justin Poole to Lead the Charge.

Following an intense selection process which included the recent O40's National Championships in Brisbane in November, Veterans Cricket Australia is delighted to unveil the squad that will proudly represent Australia at the inaugural Over 40's Cricket World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa. The team will be captained by the experienced and formidable Justin Poole from Queensland, a proven leader with an outstanding track record.

The selection process was intensified by the high stakes of the Division 1 Final, where New South Wales triumphed over Queensland. Despite the challenging competition, the selectors have assembled a squad that reflects the best of Australian talent, blending seasoned veterans with promising new additions.

Andrew Knight, Chair of the O40's & 50's Veterans Cricket Australia, expressed his confidence in the team's composition, stating, "The selectors have drawn valuable lessons from the recent 2023 O50's World Cup in Cape Town and also more importantly the Global Cup in Pakistan where the Australian team finished 3rd. The squad has been meticulously crafted to suit the anticipated conditions in Cape Town during the 2024 World Cup."

Building on the success of the previous tours, the team retains three players from the memorable Pakistan tour, showcasing a blend of experience and continuity. Furthermore, six players who contributed to the inaugural O40's team's tour of Christchurch in February 2023 have been added to the roster, bringing a wealth of knowledge and skills to the squad.

Veteran cricket enthusiasts can anticipate an exciting and competitive campaign from this well-rounded team, which comprises a mix of seasoned players and fresh faces eager to make their mark on the international stage.

Andrew Knight extended his congratulations to all the players selected, emphasizing the significance of their achievements in making the cut for the inaugural O40's World Cup. He stated, "This squad embodies the spirit of Australian cricket and is well-equipped to showcase the talent and determination of our over 40's cricketers on the global stage."

The Australian O40's Cricket Squad is poised for success, ready to face the challenges of the World Cup in Cape Town. The cricketing community eagerly awaits their performance as they strive to bring glory to Australia.
