A totem display of premiership cricket caps
Craig Hawkins | May 29, 2023
This totem is part of the display of 'premiership caps' from NSW clubs. Of the eight caps, the top four are from the Sydney Grade Cricket Competition, and were actually acquired years ago through one of the auction houses.
The lower four caps are junior level club caps, very kindly given to me by good friends who actually earned them playing for their respective clubs.
All the premiership caps are very special, as they represent a season or hard work, of team mates and of success. They mark points in cricket history, and are earned, not given.

Parramatta DCC 5th Grade premiers
The green one with the stripes is the Randwick CC Club Champions cap from Richard Chee Quee. My brother played Green Shield for Randwick in the early 1980s and my cousin won a first grade premiership in 1977-78
I grew up in the Balmain district however I never played for the Tigers. The Balmain cap is the 1990-91 club championship cap
The cap is from a good friend, and fellow collector Andy Paul. Roseville DCC were the 1992-93 Club Champions, and he very kindly offered his cap for my collection.
A few years ago, when I moved down to the Southern Highlands, I ended up as the unlikely captain of a local third grade team, the East Bowral Blues 'friendly thirds'
The bottom caps were all given to me by one of my teammates, Craig Reynolds who won premierships under all three caps.
The cap collection now numbers around 500. From Test caps from some of the game’s greatest players, to caps from clubs most people will have never heard of. Each one has a story, which I love, and there is always room for more, if anyone knows of a cap lying somewhere in a dark cupboard.
