Comments

Well done Tim, it was Percy McDonnell

We originally thought the first cricketer to play first class cricket in Australia for 3 states was Graeme Watson. Watson played 5 Tests for Australia and played first class cricket for Victoria, Western Australia, and NSW from 1964 to 1977.

However, with further research the answer is Percy McDonnell.

McDonnell is Australian Test cricket number 21 and played 19 Tests for Australia from 1880 to 1888.

He played 166 first class games for Victoria, NSW, and Queensland from 1877 to 1896.

1977/78 to 1884/85 – Victoria
1885/86 to 1891/92 – NSW
1894/95 to 1895/96 – Queensland.

Percy McDonnell passed away in September 1896 at the age of 37 due to heart failure.
