David Colley – my best captain

The best captained I played with was Barry Knight at Mosman Cricket Club. Barry has become one of the most respected coaches in Sydney, but he also played 29 tests for England and was the first grade captain at Mosman in the 1970s.

He was a great player, understood the game, in every way, was able to read opposition players and was extremely competitive.

He had terrific player empathy and knew exactly when to make bowling changes and led from the front. He knew how to motivate me and some days that took some doing.

He always went quietly about his business.
