Who is the one player from Newcastle Grade Cricket who played between 1980 and 2000 you’d want as the first player selected if you had the opportunity to start your own Newcastle Premier first grade cricket team?

Two players equally, Greg Geise and Mark Curry

David Johnston, former NSW, North Sydney and Newcastle University batter

Greg Geise and Mark Curry, hard to split them. Prawns has been coaching the C-B's, so that's a good start to assembling a top team.

Greg Geise & Mark Curry would be a great start

I see a few responses as Greg Geise. Let me back that up. I was talking to a fella only last year that used to be ok at cricket. He played 168 tests and scored 32 centuries. We were chatting about Newcastle first grade and he said “did you ever play against that bloke of Geise”. I sure did was my reply and he was our Newcastle coach for a while as well. I got the steely look and the words “boy, he could play”. That was good enough for me that Geisy reputation was far reaching. I’m also going to throw in that building a franchise cricket team probably means a T20 team so if Geisy has retired, for my 1 and 2 draft picks I’m bidding for are Rhys Soper and Darren Herbert. I know, I hear you saying I’m biased towards my mates and maybe I am, but these two could bat, bowl, field, laugh, giggle, bet, and win games off their own abilities. Ps: Newcastle rep team (anyone that played) reunion is on Sunday 25 Feb 2024 at Newcastle no 1 sports ground from 12 noon (whilst the annual Newcastle vs ACT fixture is on).
