Wayne Andrews on WA’s Golden Era – Sandgroper Sports Podcast
Wayne Andrews is a celebrated cricketer who played a key role in one of Western Australia’s most successful eras during the 1980s and 1990s.
Originally from Melbourne (not that we hold it against him), Wayne moved to WA in his late teens with ambitions of securing a WAFL league game. However, it was cricket where he truly made his mark. A dynamic batsman and skilled spin bowler, he played 91 first-class matches and 47 one-day games for WA, captaining his state on 10 occasions.
Wayne shares fascinating stories about the legendary players he played alongside and competed against, offering insights into WA’s golden era of success. He also recounts entertaining anecdotes about some of the game’s most colourful characters and reflects on memorable matches from a time before the rise of Twenty20 cricket.
