Cricket is a physically demanding game between bat and ball, but it’s much more than just physical endurance. With games often lasting longer than most sports, cricket is also a mental challenge. Australian cricket legend Dennis Lillee once reportedly said, "Cricket is 10% skill and 90% mental."

Today, we're joined by Mindset Coach Dan Rixon, Dan is the founder of Prime Mind Coaching knows cricket inside and out and has a deep connection to the game. His father Steve played test cricket for Australia and Dan also had an outstanding career as a wicketkeeper. He holds the record for the most first-grade dismissals (441) and the most first-grade games (276) for Sutherland District Cricket Club in NSW Premier Cricket.

Decked out in a shiny brand-new uniform, Women’s UTS North Sydney Bears kicked off their highly anticipated season last weekend. Our Third grade team came out with a dominant win to start the season in their matchup against Bankstown at O’Neil Park on Saturday afternoon, securing the win by 148 runs. Our Brewers girls went down in a tough loss against Greater Hunter Coast on Sunday morning, going down by 41 runs, followed by an intense win for our Second Grade side in a super over against Greater Hunter Coast on Sunday afternoon!

Round 1 has displayed an extremely strong start for our Women’s program with positives seen in all three grades. We’re excited for what this season has in store, and where they are looking to adapt to changes and improve from last season.

Kudos to South Australian cricket coach Ryan Harris, who I understand is big on the South Australian players playing as much Premier Cricket for their South Australian Premier Cricket Clubs as possible.

NSW played South Australia in last week’s Sheffield Shield game at Cricket Central in Sydney from Tuesday, 8 October, to Friday, 11 October 2024.

On Sunday, 13 October 2024, South Australia’s opening batter Connor McInerney scored 52 to help his Glenelg team to a 9 wicket victory over Southern District.

David Drew was 46 not out off 141 balls in South Australia’s 2nd innings to help his team hold on to a draw against NSW on Friday. On Sunday, Daniel skippered his first grade team, the West Torrens, to a terrific win as they chased down Sturt’s 8 for 335 off 50 overs to score 3 for 336 off 49.2.

Daniel Drew scored 143, not out off 139 balls. A great captain’s innings.

The Sheffield Shield game finished on Friday in Sydney, and both McInerney and Drew travelled home and steered their premier clubs to victory on Sunday.

Well done, Conor and David, and big vote of support to Ryan Harris.

It is important to note there wasn’t any Premier Cricket scheduled to be played in Qld, Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia on the Sunday after the three Sheffield Shield games finished on Friday. Also 7 Premier Cricket Clubs in South Australia had the bye in Round 2 of their one day competition.

On 2nd November 2024, Gordon Cricket and Rugby clubs, in conjunction with Willoughby City Council, will celebrate the centenary of the opening of Trumper Pavilion back in September 1924.

Victor Trumper is known as the most stylish and versatile batsman of the Golden Age of cricket, capable of playing match-winning innings on wet wickets his contemporaries found unplayable.

Chatswood Oval has been the home of Gordon District Cricket Club since its formation in 1905. Gordon Rugby Club was formed in 1936 and has played at Chatswood Oval from that time. Both clubs have Women’s divisions and Juniors.

Sam Konstas has completed a remarkable double in the current Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at Cricket Central. After recording his maiden first class century in the first innings with 152 (241 balls, 13 fours & 4 sixes), he scored his second century for the match in the second innings. In scoring 105 (225 balls, 7 fours & 1 six) at the age of 19 years 8 days, he became the youngest Australian player since Ricky Ponting to score a century in each innings of a Sheffield Shield match. Ponting did it at the age of 18 years 85 days in 1992-93. The only other player younger than Sam to score a century in each innings of a Sheffield Shield match was Archie Jackson, aged 18 years 124 days, in 1927-28. One other Australian player has scored a century in each innings of any first class match – Arthur Morris at the age of 18 years 344 days in his first class debut in 1940-41.

Sam has now scored 22 centuries in Sheffield Shield, Australian & NSW Under 19 matches and Premier Cricket. This includes centuries in 1st to 5th Grades, 1st Grade Limited Overs, Poidevin-Gray Shield & AW Green Shield – believed to be the only player to have achieved this feat.

After starting the season in the Kingsgrove Sports T20 with a first round win against the defending T20 champions, Randwick Petersham, St George quickly came back to earth in Saturday’s morning fixture. After being sent in by Northern District the Saints lost two early wickets before Kurtis Patterson and Matt Rodgers steadied the innings with a 128 run partnership off 74 deliveries. When Rodgers was dismissed for 54, Patterson, who finished with a majestic 95no was joined by Luke Bartier whose quickfire 27no helped Patterson take the score to 194 at the end of 20 overs. The boys from the north quickly set about their task with some big hitting putting pressure on the Saints bowling.

Peter Ferguson, Western Suburbs Player #423, passed away on Saturday, September 28th, at the same time that Wests were hosting a T20 double header at Peter’s beloved Pratten Park.

Ferguson made his debut in the Firsts on December 3, 1967, at the age of seventeen. He may have made the Firsts earlier, but the club deliberately didn't want to rush his promotion.

The exciting young left arm wrist spinner, could sharply turn his leggies and he complimented this talent as a lively all round cricketer . At age 11, Peter played his first games in Wests Under 16’s. In 1964-65 he took 123 wickets for the club; 43 in the Saturday Under 16’s competition, 18 in the A.W. Green Shield, two in Poidevin-Gray and 60 in Fourth Grade.
