In another scintillating display of power batting, Randwick Petersham today cemented its place at the top of the Pool A ladder in the 1st Grade Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup competition at Coogee Oval. Two matches were played and the home team ran out convincing winners in each. Highlights were the outstanding 101 not out from Jack Wood in the match against Western Suburbs while skipper Jason Sangha hit a majestic 68 not out playing Penrith after being dropped on the boundary before he had scored.

In the first match, the Panthers made 7-136 from their 20 overs with Riley Ayre (2-19 off 4 overs) and Jason Ralston (2-27 off 3), the principal wicket-takers. In reply, Anthony Sams with 46 off 36 balls hitting 4 fours and a 6 and Sangha, whose 68* came from just 49 balls with 4 boundaries and 4 big tonks over the fence, put on 108 for the second wicket. The winning runs came up in just 17 overs.

Western Suburbs and Hawkesbury 3rd grade team kicked off their 2023-24 season with a nail biting 50 over game at Blick Oval.

Hawkesbury batted first after being sent into bat on a wicket that would have any seamer and spinner licking their lips.

Bilal Khan struck early with two wickets however with the seamers bowling a tad short and leg side both Western Suburbs off spinners were quickly on show.

Will Chesterfield and Hameed Kherkhah proved difficult to get away and Hawkesbury’s Ahmed Badat did the right thing by taking the attack to the bowlers before sending one to deep mid wicket and out for 18.

Sydney University Cricket Club – Commencement announcement

Sydney Uni Cricket Club (SUCC) and Universities Women’s Cricket Club (UWCC) are thrilled to announce the merger of the two clubs, with the women’s teams now falling under the SUCC banner in time for the 2023/24 cricket season.

The NSW Breakers have named a 13-player squad for their T20 clash against a touring West Indies team at Cricket Central this Thursday, September 28.

Sammy-Jo Johnson is set to captain the side for the short-format fixture, whilst emerging talents Isabella Malgioglio and Ebony Hoskin have earned their way into the 13.  

Pace bowling sensation Stella Campbell is a chance of making her highly anticipated return to the NSW bowling attack after overcoming an injury picked up during last year’s WNCL season. Campbell’s last appearance in Breakers blue was on December 20, 2022.

The batting gloves worn by former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli during his explosive innings of 82 not out off 53 balls in the ICC T20 World Cup match against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) last year garnered a whopping $5,750 (approximately Rs 3.2 lakhs). This impressive sum was achieved during the Chappell Foundation's 6th Annual Dinner, which took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground on September 13.

First ball – Sangha spectacular lights up Raby Sports Complex!

Only days after launching the Sydney Thunder’s 23-24 Big Bash kit range, Jason Sangha has gone and launched the Campbelltown Camden bowling attack into orbit. A special T20 innings of 114 (not out) from 58 deliveries, including 11 fours and 6 sixes, ensured Randwick Petersham began their Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup campaign without defeat.

The NSW Men’s Cricket Team will open their domestic season with a pair of matches in Melbourne this week, with rising 19-year-old all-rounder Joel Davies a chance to make his debut for the Blues.

The Blues squad, under the guidance of master coach Greg Shipperd and experienced skipper Moises Henriques, kick off their summer in the 50-over Marsh One-Day Cup competition with a clash against Tasmania on Wednesday September 27, before backing up two days later against Victoria.

Both matches will be played at Junction Oval, beginning at 10.05am (Sydney time) and broadcast live on cricket.com.au, Foxtel and Kayo.

Vale Peter Taylor

I am shocked and saddened to report the passing of Peter Taylor, a proud Randwick Petersham Cricket Legend and former 1st Grade captain of the old Petersham-Marrickville club. Peter was found deceased in his Meadowbank home unit on Thursday 21 September. It appears he passed away up to a week before that. Many of his friends had been following him on Facebook as a result of his recent stint in Concord Hospital with a “mystery” illness which turned out to be a problem with his kidneys. After his discharge from hospital, he commented in a Facebook post some 10 days ago that he had received some physio and he felt “terrific” (his description). He is survived by two sisters, Cathy at Terrigal and Jann in Brisbane. Peter would have been 70 on 2 October.

Randwick Petersham are excited to welcome Sydney Thunder batsman Alex Ross to the Club in 2023-24. The 31-year-old right hand bat, Alex has moved to Sydney from his hometown, Adelaide. He has played Sheffield Shield for South Australia and represented the Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat in the BBL.
