I started cricket with Summer Hill Cricket Clubs milo cricket and then moved through their under age teams, the representative set up at the time and the CNSW pathway. I’ve been playing at Sydney Cricket Club since 2015 and through my progression earned 2 big bash contracts and am now training as a part of the Metros development squad

The following article is an extract from our 2006 publication “Cricket in Black and White: 110 Not Out: The history of the Western Suburbs District Cricket Club”.

At some time between the Australian tour to England in 1956, and the 1957-58 tour to South Africa, Alan Davidson completed his transition from a promising young talent to a dominant, world- class all-rounder. While his phenomenal athleticism and co-ordination were never in doubt, Davidson's early Test appearances, in a struggling team, had been tentative - his first nine Tests yielded only 16 wickets. The Coaches' Association (HKHDCCA) congratulates Lachlan Shaw (age 21) on his Cricket NSW Blues List A (one-day) debut (cap #204) and Sheffield Shield (First Class) debut (Baggy Blue #771) against South Australia in Adelaide in November 2024. Lachy scored an impressive 27 runs in the Shield match in a promising sign of things to come, in NSW’s victory by an innings.

Lachy played junior cricket in the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai & Hills District Cricket Association club and rep. competitions, and attended many Coaches' Association school holiday cricket clinics and off-season development programs from age 7 – 13,

When the St George Sutherland Slayers played the Australian Defence Force (ADF) on Tuesday 12 November they contested the Clara Shumack Trophy, honouring a great Australian nurse who spent a large part of her life serving the St George District.

Born in Bathurst in 1899 Clara Shumack trained as a nurse at St George and Prince Henry Hospitals before returning to St George as a Registered Nurse in the late 1920s. After stints at Canterbury Hospital as Assistant Matron then in a private doctor’s surgery she worked for a little over a year in Europe. In 1937 she returned to St George Hospital gaining a reputation as a first rate theatre sister while living at Sth Hurstville.

The Bathurst Giant at one time could boast a man with a magnificent physique. He stood at six feet six inches (198 cm) high and weighed in at seventeen stone (108 kg), in fact one could almost say that with his golden flowing hair and trimmed beard he could have been mistaken as a reincarnation of one of the ‘gods’ of the Vikings.

George Bonnor, a popular and proud Bathurstian, operated a business as a produce merchant. He was assisted by his wife Sarah Ann, née Holmes. Our giant wasn’t George Bonner but his son, George John Bonnor who had been born in Bathurst in February, 1855.

Sutherland won the AW Green Shield for the first time in 1970-71. After winning the Southern Division undefeated, we played the Northern Division winners Northern District in the final over two days on 26 & 27 January 1971 at the SCG No.2. Northern District batted first and were bowled out for 127. The pace attack of David Russell, Paul Aasa and Grahame Barry shared the wickets with 4-46, 3-35 & 3-24 respectively. Sutherland then replied with 227, a lead of exactly 100. Openers Ian Everett and 14-year-old Andrew Hilditch

Belmont District Cricket Club- Presidents and 1st grade report 1985/86

When presenting a report to you, the Members and Supporters of our Cricket Club. it is not always possible to present facts other than the individual team results and trophy winners. This year there have been many things happen which I feel are different and provide exciting prospects for our Club.

Firstly, the Cricket Club fielded probably the highest percentage of players under the age of 23 In its senior ranks ever. Despite the tender years of its players, the senior club managed semi finalists in three grades out of five.

On this particular day, David Warner turned up to a postcard-perfect North Sydney Oval to take on a UTS North Sydney side, which included the then-Fox Sports scribe, Sam Alexander.

Alexander penned a piece the following Monday that would be Fox Sport’s second most clicked article of the year, but it didn’t come without backlash: “I played club cricket against David Warner on Saturday – here is the type of bloke he is.”

Cricket was first played in America in the 1700s with the first documented competition played in Manhattan in 1751. And while it continued to be played as an amateur sport for many years in certain parts of the country, Americans never played the game in great numbers. After the Civil War, baseball grew quickly in popularity while cricket declined.
In the early 1900s, a cricket team from Philadelphia toured England and while the game’s resurgence was short-lived, there was enough interest during the WWII years for a tour to be taken of Australia. A report on a match in Sydney in 1943 during that tour, appeared as follows in a local newspaper.

Brett Newman is the proud owner of Penrith Cricket Club first grade cap number 145.

At the time of publication Brett has scored over 6,200 runs across all grades for the club and taken more than 380 wickets.

In 1998-99 and 2000-01 Brett was awarded the Penrith Cricket Club men’s player of the year and he features in the clubs first grade highest 4th, 5th and 7th record wicket partnership in Penrith history.

Brett played NSW 2ndXI cricket and in season 2024-25 Brett continues to give back to the club and helps nurture the younger players in the club as 5th grade captain.

Atharv Dwivedi is an exciting up-and-coming fast-bowling all-rounder who joined Western Suburbs District Cricket Club at the beginning of the 2024/25 season.

Atharv has already made a great impression on everyone at the club with his skillset, maturity and commitment.

Leading into Round 6 of the 2024/2025 season, Atharv has already taken 9 wickets at an average of 14.78 in third grade for the club at just 15 years of age.

Gary Blake is a former Sydney Cricket Club player who played back when the club was known as Balmain and played the game with great spirit and enthusiasm.

Belmont District Cricket Club - Presidents Report 1984/85

The presentation of this Report to you, the members of Belmont District Cricket Club, traditionally brings to a close one "Cricket Year" and signifies the beginning of another. The season just past saw our club field teams in all Five Senior Grades and Under 17's and Under 23's, as well as Junior C & S sides in all age groups.

Honours came our way in the winning of the First Grade Premiership after a few years in the doldrums. My congratulations to the team and to Chris Williams in his first year of coaching in winning the pennant.

Sam opens the bowling for Penrith and in the 2023-24 season he took 36 wickets at an average of 15.61 with best bowling figures of 7 for 35.

In the 2005/06 season, the Manly Warringah Waratahs staged our 2nd ever day-night match. It came after the success of the previous years match against North Sydney.

What a night it was. With 3,000 people in attendance at Manly Oval, Manly were able to get over the top of Parramatta with ease.

Manly 2-136 (Merchant 73*, Atkinson 35*) defeated Parramatta 135 (Sullivan 6-31, Todd 2-16).

The Parramatta District Cricket Club has a highly unique tradition regarding the stability of its 1st Grade Scorers that few if any other Cricket Clubs across the globe could match. Incredibly since 1918 only three people have undertaken the important role of permanent Scorer for the club’s 1st Grade team up to 2020. - Ernie Gould, Wesley Gould and Christine Bennison. What an unmatchable record over a time span of 102 years these three individuals have indeed proved to be ‘Pen Pushers Extraordinaire’, only occasionally missing Parramatta or Central Cumberland 1st grade matches through personal illness or because they were engaged in scoring a first-class or international match, year in year out they proudly took their places in the ‘Scorer’s Chair’.
